gears clonking?

my Suzuki gsf 600
clonks when put in 1st
now has started right up to 5th
and when dropping down goes to 2nd
then wont drop down to neutral then 1st
any idea

Hi,
The most obvious answer is clutch drag. this means that the engine is only partially disengaged when the clutch is pulled in, hence the clunking and the problem with engaging gears.
Adjust your clutch to reduce the drag but not so much as to induce clutch slip.
