Leyland Daf FA45 130 1996 - Gear stick position?

Recently lost all gears but to find that linkage had disconnected from the gearbox splined shaft. I reconnected but now the gear lever position is forward of what it used to be but does not affect changing gear whatsover. I only do a couple of thousand miles a year as the lorry is a horsebox. My question is can this position cause any damage to the gearbox given my low usage?

Thanks Norb I was just a bit worried although I couldn't see how it could do any damage
