It no longer allows water in. But when program cycle is set, will run the entire program without letting water in. I poured a jug of water into the dishwasher which ran out during the course of the program cycle.

bit confused with your question but if you are convinced it runs cycle as normal but without water it must have a blockage in the air chamber/pressure switch pipework.One that springs to mind to me is water in the base that makes the drain pump run constantly but doesn't do a normal wash without water.check antiflood/leaks.check blockage in pipework and airbreak chamber.test inlet valve
