Hi cdc,

Thanks for the answer. My car does have an electric handbrake which has been checked out by a Renault specialist, but they have been unable to clear the fault displayed onn the dashboard.

I am not sure on yours but some Renaults have electric h/brakes,which require a computer to work on/diagnose.I was speaking to a mechanic I know a few weeks ago who had dealings with these,a particular Renault needed the h/brake actuator assy which came in at £1400, yes that is fourteen hundred pounds and that was that particular Renaults second one,in my opinion a complete waste of money and if ever there was a reason never to buy a Renault then that is it,I advise to get the motor onto a suitable code reader to diagnose your fault as it is safety related.
