KitchenAid mixer KS55 made in St Joseph Mich 1984-?

I was cleaning my ks55....decided to see what was behind the black "screw" on the left side (facing it) of the motor casing..a spring thing with ? motor brush popped out....I've put it back in but now my mixer will not run :(.....PLEASE HELP!! Dspringer
