Optima XM 4 zone issue?

Hi all I installed my optima some twenty years ago now and have regulary serviced it up untill the present date. The exterior was looking a bit shabby so I decided to replace it with a more modern sab siren.I realised when fitting the new it sounded for a few seconds then went into engineers hold of mode and would not come out untill I disconnected the sab.On further testing the panel was not putting out the 13v supply for the siren.I have checked the fuses removed the wiring etc but still no output, but have the voltage for the pir's and door contacts.I have now removed the main board for inspection and no electronic components look bad.I also inspected the rear of the board for bad solder joints and for visible burn marks but nothing?.I do realise that this is a old alarm and probably not cost affective to send it to a repair centre,so I would like to have a go myself.I have good soldering skills but I am not familiar with the circuit design nor do I know which components could be at fault.I would really appreciate some guidance in what components are likely to fail and be at fault under these circumstances.thank you to all who respond and all advice from engineers that use this forum welcomed.

Always a pleasure gts.

Don't want to throw a spanner in the works but the 9448's are now obsolete so don't pay an arm or a leg for one, shop around online and don't buy one from flea bay.

9448+ is what you should look for.

Thanx for getting back to us and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Gts I still think Rhys should go for the 9651 don't you mate

e manno,i wish all the ops on here where as polite as rhys, was a pleasure to deal with him

nice and reliable panel mate easy to use and prog have a good weekend too .on this site the guys will give truth full advice we not tell you what you want to hear, but what you need to know, have fun with the 9448

I hear what you are saying guys and yes i admit a replacement is the better option under these circumstances.I have looked at the scantronic range and think i will plum for the 9448 not because of the price but for the on-board keypad.Thank-you both for your advice and hope you both have a good weekend.

Agreed gts :)

You already won that bet mate and i'l tell op why.

Age and heat generated by the voltage regulators will have lifted all visible ID markings/ratings etc,so identifying them for replacements are virtually impossible, unless he has schematics.

I can say both are totally different.

Do yourself a favour mate and listen to gts's sound advice :)

to do a component level repair on this dross is really stupid mate, its trash, was when it was new,and still is,and my friend emanno knows this, but he a very polite guy,and gives you inf o to try fix the thing, but,i will make a bet with e manno, betb you dump it and buy a descent panel, let us know what you do please,

I agree with gts mate it's not worth the fuss, but if you really want a play then we can point you in the right direction.

The key components that should be checked are located under the keypad,so remove the three phillips screws that are located around the keypad chassis and gently lift out the keypad and remove the ribbon cable.

At the top are two voltage regulators,(the chassis you have removed is screwed through these and acts a heat sink),replace both regulators.

Below you will see a bank of diodes (D1's) check these for continuity, one or two will have failed.sandwiched between the two banks of D1 diodes you will see a resistor, replace that for the same value.

They are the key components that fail and cause the split DC/AUX voltage faults on the Accenta/Optima pcb,s.

Think we have all seen the fried resistor under the keypad's on these many times lol.

I still don't think it's worth the hassle though :D

best thing to do mate is bin the panel, its what we call a budget unit,)(cheap) buy a scantronic 9651,now there's a panel for you,and fit a new 7 amp battery while your at it
