How can fix my oil leak in Vauxhall Astra?

I have a 2000 1.6 8v Vauxhall Astra will an oil leak from the head gasket. I have also noticed a white gunk on the inside of the oil filler cap. I'm not sure if replacing the gasket would solve this problem and stop water getting in with the oil?

Any advice would be great.

If I was to replace the gasket would I need a torque wrench and what would be the settings for the rocker cover bolts? Many thanks.

If you are replacing the gasket then you would be advised to buy a manual, this would tell you all torques/tightening sequences, whether you need new head bolts etc, your substance in the rocker cover may have nothing to do with your gasket,do you do a lot of town driving? Is a lot of running involved where it doesn't get up to operating temperature?
