How can I fix a faulty heat gauge ?

I have a 2006 Opel corsa 1.4i Lite, the temperature gauge reaches maximum but the car does not overheat. I can still drive around but am worried if it really does overheat, I might not realise it. I have replaced the thermostat and overhauled the cyclinder head.
