Indesit Dishwasher D63 stuck in Cycle?

My Indesit D63 gets stuck in cycle between positions 3 and 4, after it has done a preliminary wash. The pump drains the warm water but carries on trying to drain, after the water has been drained. I advanced the timer by hand, click by click, but the pump stays on and nothing else happens. Does anyone know whether the pump is stopped by the timer, or is there a sensor to tell the pump that the water has gone and, hence, stop pumping?

There is a float switch in the bottom part of the dishwasher, behind the front lower panel. When the dishwasher overfills or leaks into the bottom the float switch is activated and turns the drain pump on perminantly. Tip the (empty of water )machine back and any water in the lower half will drain off on your floor. Sit the machine back and the float switch will have reset. Now try and find the leak.!!
