ford escort heater fan not blowing?

have an escort and transit and both interior heater fans do not blow at all.must be a common fault but what is it?

On a Transit depending on what year it is, if it's a between 1991 and 2000 then what happens is the resistor fails meaning you loose speeds 1 and 2 but this can also cause the switch to melt loosing speed 3.
