Well it is always a good idea to get an expert in order to make out serious issue. If you check engine light is on that means definitely there is any problem in your car, for example:

1. A blown gasket head
2. Worn-out spark plugs
3. humid exhaust-gas recirculation valves
4. spoiled oxygen sensor
5. Loose damaged hose.
There are several modern engines that comprise check engine light as you see at http://buyusedengine.com/used_engine.php?make=Mitsubishi or other site. For now you need to contact any service point to diagnose the engine code and determine the root of this issue.

Without guessing it will need to go onto the correct computer to determine your fault and to access fault codes
