How can I fix my vauxhall vectra 1.8 sxi 2005 hatchback?

While driving along the battery warning light came on and the power steering failed.when I stopped the car and turned the engine off it would not start again please help me

Auxiliary belt (also known as alternator belt) has broken by the sound of it.

Is your battery flat? Check fan belt is still on,would get battery tested,if in doubt replace,fit battery and start motor,put voltmeter across battery,should read 14v+,if any less suspect your alternator.
