Fisher & Paykel Smart Drive 508 - problem with warm/hot washes?

My Smart Drive 508 works fine on a cold wash but when I want to do warm it goes to hot and then light starts flashing and it starts beeping. Machine stops for a while, then finally fills and does the entire wash.

I usually wash with cold so don't know how long this has been a problem - only discovered it when I went to do something on Delicate (warm wash), and also when my partner did the washing and set it on warm. It also happens if you set temperature to hot.

It seems to be a known problem (insufficient hot water) as I found reference to it in the service manual which I was able to download; it said it shouldn't cause it to pause. But in this case it does. The hot water at the adjacent laundry tub is just fine.

Insufficient Hot Water (Hot Water LED flashing)
This warning is indicated by the hot water LED flashing. Smartdrive will also be making a rippling set of 5 beeps repeated every 6 seconds. The hot water is not connected or the water temperature is too low. NB. This warning mode does not cause the product to PAUSE

"Put hose back on machine & set washer to hot & start. Can you hear a strong flow of water entering. If it sounds slow or sounds like it is struggling to let water flow, replace the inlet valve with a new one." Did you do this and was the water flowing in to the machine fast and similar in noise as the cold water (i.e. no high pitched sound like the valve was not fully open) If you did and water was coming in fast then I can only suggest that there may be a problem with the main control board. It would not be financially advisable to just go buying a replacement board and fitting it because that still may not cure the fault. Suggest you get a service tech out to do some checks & decide if it is the board or not.

Hi again Lincoln Appliance NZ.

There is plenty of water flow. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Start with the basics. Take the hot inlet hose off the back of machine. Check the filter inside the inlet valve (where the hose screws on to) make sure it is not blocked. Put end of hose in to tub & turn on tap. Make sure you have a strong flow of water & it is hot. Put hose back on machine & set washer to hot & start. Can you hear a strong flow of water entering. If it sounds slow or sounds like it is struggling to let water flow, replace the inlet valve with a new one.
