Megane lighter socket - 'half' working!?

Hi, I have just bought a 55 plate Megane. The lighter socket won't give power to things plugged into it but the lighter itself heats up and works properly. Is this a design issue (I've tried with a couple of different sat navs)? All ideas greatly received!

Did you realise the problems associated with Renaults before you bought the car,especially electrical faults?If you can try and get your money back and get rid.
