For an 18 year old W842 , 'Rinse Light' means the EL200 PCB ( Main Controller Board ) has become faulty , due to either the Motor becoming faulty [ to check , examine the resistance on the Armature(10.5 ohms approx ) / the resistance on the Field coils (6 ohms ) / the resistance on the Tacho Coil (319 ohms) , Temp Switch (3 ohms), and ensure earth through the 10MOhm resistance contacts the machine body through the screw on the brush pack.... all these are approx values ( access the motor by carefully tipping nearly all the way onto side )] . If all Ok ,then replace the motor brushes ( £5.99 on ebay) whilst motor is on the bench .
After ruling out the motor as the fault , replace the two shock-absorber struts , attached to the bottom of the drum ( £15 ebay ), which have normally caused the problem ....... by letting the drum hit the side and back of the washing machine unit whilst in the spin cycle [access by opening front panel, by releasing 3 bolts around loading hole , and 3 screws around soap container , then release hose within the filter compartment ..... obviously remove the top panel and lower kick panel first , and TURN THE POWER OFF ] .
Remove the PCB for repair ( approx £30 on ebay) . Note the control knob pulls off , and the hose pulls out of the back of the pcb [located in the top of the front door panel , EL 200 ]. Note that a new board scraps the machine at £360 , so forget that path.
Hope this helps someone , and saves landfill that little bit more........ saved me the £700 for a new machine, and many thanks to others who have posted on the internet re this subject.
