This happened with my daughter's cooker. I managed to clean up the rings and used some emery cloth to clean up the contact on the electrodes. That sorted it out. Works fine again now. They get a build up of dirt and grease which needs cleaning off from time to time.
If the electrodes themselves stop working check the connections. Replacement electrodes can be obtained for £3.49 each from espares.
