Electrical Problem with my vauxhall astra, i brake and lights come on?

Hi, Every time I put my foot on the brake in my Mk3 vauxhall astra my side lights come on, Also when i leave my foot on the brake and take my keys out of the ignition the engine stays running? any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Hi. At a guess ur brake pedal switch that turns on ur lights when u brake might or could be connected to ur LIVE wire on ur ignition that is keeping the car running when u turn ur ignition off. also it could be connected to ur side lights rather than main lights by the sounds of it who u baught it off has played with it to make it look like everything is working just to sell it on fast. The way to fix it is look under ur dash where ur pedals ar and just at the back of ur brake pedal will be a switch. follow and find out where the live wire is coming from. Now also check ur rear lights and if im right there will be a wire added that is turning on ur side lights instead of ur main brake lights. remove it and if that stops the lights working there is either a break in the wiring from ur pedal to the back lights (theory) u could try also changeing the units in the rear light (goto a scrappers aka scrap yard and get some new ones to test b4 u buy them off them) hope this helps.
