Can I rewire a motion sensor myself??

I've recently had my living room replastered and had coving put up,so the motion sensor was unscrewed from the wall and hung down the wall,it wasn't until I finished decorating that I noticed I could not push the wire from the sensor back up through the hole in the ceiling it came from.Ive had the floorboards up upstairs to try and pull the wire back but it looks like the wire has got stuck withe the adhesive from the coving. Can I shorten the wire by cutting it and then rewire the sensor and if so how can I prevent the alarm going into tamper mode?? the alarm is an Accenta

Sorry, forgot to add that.

You might cut the wrong cable.

If in doubt with electricity get in an expert.

Ok thanks for that, obviously the mains power to the alarm panel should be off whilst doing all of this?

If it is set up correctly when you take the lid off the detector it will go into alarm.
Put in code and this will silence it.

Now photograph the wiring as it is inside, then write down the colours and where each one goes.

Cut each wire on its OWN and remove the cable from the PIR. This will ensure you have not created a short circuit.
Feed the cable through the detector until you have taken the slack away and then gently peel back the outer sheath to expose the separate cores. Strip back ONE at a time and put into the detector before starting on the next.
When finished put lid back on detector, then enter code.
The system should reset.
If not you have fluffed up and need one of us people that do this free of charge on here, but charge when we visit :D
