I don't think there's an approved height although some manufacturers might suggest how high.
You don't want it too high else all the steam might escape - too low and you'll bang your head as you look into the pots.
Mine is 5'5" - 1650 mm from the floor - the gap between stove and hood is 30" - I am 5'7".
