Pulled up at petrol station yesterday and noticed the temp gauge on red put petrol in but car would not start, waited about 20 minutes and it started it has done the same today after a 30 mile trip any idea's what it could be? it's a 53 plate.
Replace the radiator and put fresh coolant/ant-freeze mix in it.

Each time it has been after a run so hot engine. Although the temperature gauge remains on bar 3 (amber). The garage has tested everything and says the water is circulating ok, water pump is ok, head gasket is ok, heater works correctly, thermostat opens correctly. They has it running over half an hour and it didn't overheat.
They have apparenlty used a thermal imaging machine and say it appears the radiator is hot at the top but the water leaving the radiotor appears cold so there must be a blockage and therefore i need a new radiator? Is this right or should they be able to flusk the blockage out? Thanks

firstly does it have coolant present? Any leaks? Also check water is circulating in the reservoir,if not suspect water pump, check top hose is hot,if not suspect thermostat,if system is pressurising, suspect head/gskt
