Diagnosing problem in 1.8 diesel focus?

Hi, my focus diesel won't start after a violent stall by a learner. Got picked up by AA and took to garage. Timing on belt apparently fine. The injectors are pumping fuel but the engine won't turn over. The garage said take to a diesel specialist, had a mechanic mate look at it also. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or had a similar problem so I can try anything as a last ditch attempt before scrapping it. Thanks

not sure but would check if there is a fuel cut off valve in case of an accident, might just need re setting

Might it be that the violent stall was caused by the internals of the engine disintegrating rather than any lack of finesse by the learner?

From what you say the engine turns over on the starter but does not fire up and run as you would expect. External conditions are properly in place yet the motor fails to work - I suspect the engine has committed suicide.

But I know nothing of engines...
