pliers and strength. the springs on recliner mechanisms have to be streched to be installed correctly. Ive found the easiest way to install is to seat one hook of the spring in position and then grab other hook with pliers and pull into place. Usually easier when you can pull towards yourself and not away from. Hope this helps goodluck
