It's pretty safe to say then Tracy that the investigating of the workings was probably what caused the sound to pack up on you...
Nobody here can see inside your machine so until somebody comes along with a sensible answer based on experience - it might be best to explore inside again - look for damage where the screws go through or the shell halves meet - a wire or cable might be damaged or be unplugged - check all connectors to make sure that they're good and snug.
If you can - try to operate it when it's split apart - gently wobble connectors about - see what happens...
