How can I fix my Indesit DG6100W?

My dishwasher (Indesit DG6100W) worked fine until the other day when (I think) some sticky labels off a jar came off and blocked the filter. I did not realise I had a problem until the following morning when the washer was still 'washing' - and would not move-on. I cleared the blockage and moved the dial, and it then went on to finish the wash. However, now, whenever I use the machine it stops part way through cycle 2 and sometimes has to be moved on 2 or 3 times to finish the wash. I have had the front off and checked the 'clock' - but this appears Ok (through I can't really see inside it). One thing I have noticed is that I DO NOT think that the heater has been working since the blockage - and I am wondering if the overnight episode has damaged this....Would a 'blown' heater stop the clock from cycling properly? Might the heater have a fuse somewhere which saves it from burning out? Could anyone guide me as to where to start to diagnose the problem?

Many thanks for reading - and for any replies

this is probably a long dead thread... but i am a skint new dad, and picked up my Indesit DG6100W of a bloke at work (3rd hand)!

After tilting the front a little the machine is now rinsing, emptying, and i am £150 better off as i don't have to shell out for a new model to keep the missus happy.

Long live the internet, and all the geeks who use it to diagnose faults with their used kitchen appliances!!!

Hi all!
My switch has just stopped working as it dosen't stay clicked in any longer, after removing the front cover off, the switch was intact but a small spring dropped out of it & haven't got a clue where in the switch it came from so i might as well buy a new one but Im having trouble trying to find a stockist that supplies the push on & off switch for my DG100W, i'd appreciate any leads please. Thanks in advance.

Problem : the machine emptying pump just runs all the time. The dial never moves on and it just sits and hums / chugs all the time.

Solution : There is a sensor which tells the machine when all the water has been pumped out and it can move on - this sensor is clogged somehow and never sends the signal to say move on.

Pull out the machine and tilt it back slightly (eg. put a piece of wood under the front - just a couple of inches does it). Turn it on again and hey presto ! Let it complete a cycle which should be enough to clear the blockage properly.

If this doesn't work, isolate the nachine and remove the little cover below the door - the sensor is at the right side. Remove it & clean it out.

we always use washer on setting 2, recently, the machine just makes a low chugging/churning noise and nothing happens. no water is forced into the dishwasher and the cycle never completes, well, doesn't really start. i raised the front of the machine with a couple of pegs so it is slightly tilted backwards, and lo!!! it worked straight away, i will wait 'till the weekend and remove the cover below the door, then mop out the sensor on the right hand side, thanks very much. probably saved me a couple of hundred pounds.

so, in answer to Me, somebody does still read these pages.

I have followed your advise and low and behold, after washing it down with WD40, working it in and reconnecting, the washer is working at temperature again. keeping my fingures crossed that it keeps on going. Thanks a lot!!! Great web site.

I have just raised the front of the machine, to just above the level of the back of the machine and the thing has started working again. Seems I had water covering a sensor at the front. How difficult is it to renew door handle?

Gerry Mackie, January 2006
Take off front lower panel just under door there are two black plastic covers remove right hand one and see if there is any water in the base tray if so turn off power if not already done so and use kitchen towel to mop up water. Make sure that the front of the machine is just a bit higher than the back using the feet at the front as there is a sensor in the bottom of the machine that makes the pump run if water is there.
Hope this helps.
Gary.

don't know how you conducted your test with multimeter on element - tried testing some on resistance test in past but if element has blown inside it's casing it could be short circuiting - interesting to see what you did with timer though as my machine has just croaked (stuck in cycle & when moved manually to empty did so but then followed the smell of something burning out - time to get the tools out!)

Final session?...Perhaps.
OK, so the self-help pages continue. I'll carry on, just in case this is of use to someone out there.

Not knowing what to do next (and this forum being a complete waste of my time) I priced up a new timer/clock for the machine.....approx £55 & VAT. The supplier also added "well that's what you expect if you will buy Indesit" (So be warned...he recommended Siemens - even over Bosch)
Having stripped the machine down to the bare-bones, I decided that if I need to buy a new machine because of a faulty 'clock' I might as well have a look in the bl**dy-thing!
So, I un'clipped' the motor-end and drilled out the ends of the two long rivets that hold the thing together. (By the way, make very good sketches before you try this). I then began to pull the top section of the timer off - taking care to catch the springs and spade connextions as some fall out! Keeping the parts as 'together' as I could, I stripped the layers down to the third - at which I found a burnt-out lever-switch - with loads of nice blackened plastic and crud.
I used a mini-drill (£7 from a DIY store) to 'sand' off the molten plastic - taking care to leave the proper bits of mouldings, and cleaned up the connections and 'points' with a wire-brush attachment on the drill.
Next came the task of carefully re-assembling everything, which is easier when you realise that you must push back the 'rivets' and 'slide' the sections in sideways so that they sit in the correct grooves on the timer.
Once together (and you have to be patient) I screwed small screws into the blanked rivet ends and re-assembled the motor end - then tried the handle just to see everything 'clicks' Ok.

I have now put the clock back into the machine and it is now running through the cycle and seems OK - the clock is turning and the heater works OK.

I don't know how long this will last - we shall see. But maybe 'next' time it may be worth spending the £60 for a new clock - or perhaps I should just put it towards a Siemens.

Thats all folks!!!!!!!

Is this a self-help page then? Does anybody read any of this?

Ok, so now I've bought the Dishwasher Haynes Manual which has been pretty useless. Found the thermostat by taking off all the panels etc. Removed thermostat and checked in hot water with multimeter - thermostat appears to be working OK. What next......?
If anyone reads these, maybe I'll get an answer. Otherwise, maybe I'll answer it myself in a few days time.

Me still ----Saying DOES anybody READ this stuff, January 2005
OK, no replies so perhaps if I give an update someone could help with a reply?
I have bought and fitted a new element, but the problem remains - clock sticks and the water does not heat up! My multimeter seems to indicate that the old element was in fact, ok. Still the clock looks fine...What's next? Is there a fuse somewhere on the heater circuit, or a thermostat or a water level sensor I should check????????
