Catalyst converter faulty?

Hi Guys, Im from south Africa, on my 207cc 1.6 thp de-pollution error, took it into Peugeot and told me they need to replace the cat charging me 43000.00 rand. could it be possible to remove the catalyst converter as this is not against the law in our country?
would it affect anything on the engine?

Cats rear lambda prob would to the ecu, read the same as the front lambda sensor so ecu will put light on as catalysts ineffient/below threshold.

There are a few companies out there who advertise the removal of dpf's and reconfigure your ECU to suit, have you tried a good intake/cat cleaner? Cat's are usually very expensive and before renewing I would be making sure all other possibilities are looked into,a lot of problems on modern motors are down to a lot of town driving/short journeys and your warning light can be brought on due to a number of reasons,ie misfires/filters/plugs etc. Good luck.
