do i need a special tool to remove the wiper arms as i need to take the dash board out to get to the matrix

There is a small puller designed for the job but try slackening the nut but don't remove completely to protect the threads,get someone to apply light pressure upwards with a small lever and tap the nut with a copper/brass punch and small hammer to shock it free,usually works,good luck.
