Hi! Hope someone can help? When I plug in my Bernina minimatic it just runs and won't turn off! We have checked the foot pedal and all is fine there (no stuck contacts, no shorts in cable, etc). So likely to be something wrong in the motor but question is what and how to actually get into motor housing? Any hints or tips appreciated! :-)
Open the foot pedal and remove the capacitor. It is not needed with modern television sets. The capacitor deteriorates over time and shorts out. Just cut it out and throw it away!

Easy to fix, remove the burned noise surpressor and motor wil stop and run when you want it to, no need for new one

Thanks for reply - managed to get motor housing open. A scorch mark where capacitor sits. So figure this is where the problem lies! I'm guessing from your reply that is where my short is then... now to trawl the Internet trying to find a part for a 47 year old machine!

There will be nothing wrong with the motor - it should run when it has power and not run when there is no power.
If the motor is running then it will be getting power.
Your challenge is to find out where the power is coming from.
Despite what you say about checking the foot pedal my guess is that is where the fault lies - there or in the cable. The cable will have a permanent live for the machine's light - perhaps that's where power for the motor is finding its way into the machine - a short between one conductor and another.
