Replacement turbo astra van 1.7 dti?

Turbo trouble, pop then loads of white smoke, engine continued to run after turned off, high revs. Have removed turbo and will be looking for a replacement recon. What else should I consider checking / changing as don't want to waste money on another turbo if other damage has been done.

You don't say what is wrong with your turbo but am surmising there is a lot of wear in the impeller and the seals have gone with the engine ingesting oil, hence the running on. If your old turbo is intact and no metal fragments have been drawn into your engine then you may be lucky but would be wary of excess oil sitting on top of your pistons and causing hydraulicing when starting your motor again, I would definitely turn it over by hand first and make sure you feel the four compressions,if you feel there is excess oil there then it may be worth removing the heater plugs to try and pump some of the oil out, if the motor does start ok then be prepared for a lot of smoke until all the excess oil is burnt off from your intake and exhaust systems, good luck.
