the machine is leaking water from the bottom and it is running onto the motor and tripping out the rcd.
can this be fixed?

Where is the water coming from? If it is coming down from above the clutch & gearbox area then it will be the main tub seal worn. To replace that is a major job to dismantle the inner/ outer bowls & remove the gearbox.The bearings will also be rusty & very noisy on spin.
