intermitant problem with 1st and second gear?

im having a problem with an 04 plate kia sedona manuel. Itermitantly it wont go into ether first or second then after messing around with the gear stick it will return to getting both gears anybody any ideas.

Not to sure on these but I would check for a worn linkage from lever to box
