when i put the washing machine on it trips the switch in my electric control box, what could cause this.The miele is only 4 years old,but it is outside of its guarantee

You do not say at which point in the machine's cycle the trip happens - a probable cause is the heating element - but if the trip happens immediately a programme begins it will not be the element.

A service engineer will soon sort it out for you - something in the machine is likely causing a short to earth.
