All electrics seem to be on with out key in ignition?

Hi I have a 05 cmax, when I arrived back at it yesterday (after torrential rain) the oil, battery, handbrake and orange engine light were all on. I unlocked the car and sat inside and with out putting the key in the ignition I could turn on the heater fan, lights, brake lights, electric window etc ? Then when I put the key in the ignition no change, no click no bleeps nothing. Flashing immoberliser light goes out when I unlock door. The AA had a quick look then towed me home. I tried disconnecting the battery but just resulted in loosing radio code doh!
Any ideas?
Assuming water has got in somewhere, but not sure where to start.

Well done Barry, glad it is sorted.

Hi all, I took the battery and gave it a good charge as the AA chap said it was low, measured 12.2v before charge and 13.6v after. While battery was charging I decided to look over the internal fuse board and when I unplugged a couple of the multi plugs found green water damage! A o I removed the fuse box and took it in doors, I opened it up and it looked like some of the pins had been arcing out! I cleaned it all down with wd40 and a toothbrush then covered the arc marks with my wife's finest nail varnish. Left it on the radiator to dry out then refitted along with the now charged battery.
Hey presto I now have a running car again.

Hope this is of help to someone (especially those that live somewhere it occasionally rains).

Fuse box out, clean and refitted in approximately 20min (not including drying), and that's by someone who didnt even know there was a fuse box there until yesterday!!!!

have had a few ignition switches at fault on Fords, maybe worth a look. Good luck.

The ignition switch activates a relay and the relay energises the various circuits you mention - possibly several relays.

Clearly the relay has got itself into the energised position - is there any evidence of rain water damage?

Just pull relays until the fault goes away - I am not a motor engineer but I'm surprised the AA chap dis not consider a relay fault.

I am only guessing here.

Good Luck..., November 2015
