how can I check central locking?

the tailgate and rear windscreen does not open on my renault laguna privelage.

same problem my 1999 laguna estate , presume solenoid faulty in tailgate , am about to crawl in back with torx socket set and pull off back panel --nothing to lose . Only prob is it is 4 degs C outside .....
