How can I mend my keypad, which no longer responds. I cannot open the hand set to have a look.

Dear Ursula,
Try pressing the (Off/Power)Button for about 5 seconds, before releasing it. This button is towards the top right-hand side of your keypad with the symbol of a telephone crossed by a line, together with the numeral 1 surrounded by a circle.
