overheating automatic peugeot 206?

It seems that after a week of trying different things to solve this problem my mechanic has decided it is a problem with the transmission cooling. He says the liquid is emulsified and there is probably a blockage. He recomends replacing the unit but my question is ....... would a fluid flush be sufficient?
