diagnosis of fault?

Runs ok for about 3/4 of the cycles and then a loud grating noise starts and doesn't stop. No fault code appears. Is it not fixable or would it be better to replace. The machin is less thn2 years old

He has a somewhat condescending style in his answers - not always particularly helpful either.

A curmudgeon I think - Victor Meldrew with kisses.

You do not say the machine make or model but no matter they are all much the same...

So - what happens at 3/4 of the way through a washing cycle?

I would guess the washing water is pumped out to be replaced with rinsing and drying water - I guess your machine has a drain-pump problem.

Here in Europe warranty on stuff is two years - I believe.
In your country that may also be true I don't know.
If you can invoke your warranty then do so through the vendor not the manufacturer.

As for - is it worth replacing? - that depends on how much you might spend on a new machine versus the cost of repair - and your feelings about it. If it were mine I would shoot for the repair - I expect my machines to last for at least 8 or more years. You generally get what you pay for.

What is the machin(e)?

One has to assume it is a dishwasher, since that is the question category but you have, for some reason, decided not to tell us the make and model.

This is often very useful to know, as often particular devices exhibit common faults. If you had actually done a search for yourself you may have actually seen that.
