how2fix brake pedal,as brake lights come on unless i pull brake pedal bk up?

i have a 51plate peugeot 206 1.4lx ,the brake pedal seems to go down only a couple of mm (seems slightly loose) which causes the back brakes to stay on unless i hold my foot at bk of brake pedal. Please help .
