started the cycle and then tripped household electrics. fuse in plug is working. just had new brushes fitted a few months ago. as soon as i reset the household electrics and switch washer on, it trips them again. what is causing this?

What is causing the trip? An electrical fault in the washing machine - more than probably an earth-leakage fault - a component has failed and the breaker switches off the power to be on the safe side - just in case the current is flowing through a person.
