how do refit the bottom clip on the heater control cable? didn't take enough notice when I took it off!

Not sure but a lot of heater control cables outer sheathing are clamped by the clip and adjustable to get the maximum movement either way when the controls are turned,you will probably have to insert the inner cable before securing and clamping the clip itself.
