How can I mend my black pants?

I had my black pants on when my puppy caught her nail in them. Now some threads are broken in one spot. Please tell me how I can fix it so it doesn't make a hole in them before I wash them. They are Rewind black jeans. Thanks for your help!

Darn the damage with suitable thread or buy a small fabric badge and sew it over the damaged area. Or both!
