I have a new Macallister hedge trimmer made by B & Q?

My MHTP24EB Hedge Trimmer was made by B& Q not Macallister. B&Q very unhelpful with query.
Fill tank with correct petrol/oil 40/1. It starts but when engaging blades it stops. No one seems to know why. It also smokes. Should I try reducing the mix?

Dont let B&Q fob you off to MacAllister. Your contract is with the retailer and you have every right to reject the item if it is not working properly especially after only a few weeks.

As "Good Luck" says below, B&Q do not make things - they're a retail outfit - they buy and sell.

MacAllister is a brand name exclusive to B&Q - pile it high and sell it cheap stuff made by random Chinese manufacturers and sold with once respectable badges on and enjoying next to zero support.

MacAllister is a brand name exclusive to B&Q - could be made in many factories and in many countries.

If it runs off-load but stalls on-load it suggests to me fuel starvation - the fuel/oil mix is a secondary issue.

If it's new then take it back to the store and ask them to repair it or give you a replacement or your money back.

Don't forget your proof of purchase.
