I cannot get my Staples spl 710 sh paper shredder to start. there seems to be no power from the plug. There is no fuse in the plug itself, so I think there may be an internal fuse somewhere.

Just serviced one of these. There is a lockout switch that keeps the unit from being powered on when the handle is lifted. A plastic tab on the handle about the size of a grain of rice, which actuates (closes) the lockout switch, had broken off. I cemented the plastic tab back on and the unit now works.

No - there will be a fuse in the plug - it will be illegal for there not to be one. Look underneath the plug for a little door that can be prised out - the fuse will be revealed.

Thy also have an overheat cut-out - yours may have operated or it may be defective - or both.
