I have a R reg 1998 Vauxhall Cosa Merit 12 v and the speedo does work but often sticks on around 37 mph mark. After tapping on the perspex cover the speedo usually goes to the correct marker. It does not affect the speed or the function of the car, the needle simply sticks. Any suggestions, please?

it's the first thing that has ever let it down. Only done 62 thou miles so should have a good few years left. May cost me more in speeding tickets if I misjudge my speed than paying for a fix...

It is 18yrs old and not worth the time or expense of fixing it,just keep tapping it,I bought a barometer at a car boot fair two weeks ago and I have to tap that every day!
