Tefal Protect steam generator?

When switching on it sounds like a drill, then green light comes on, then I get a blast of steam then red water empty light comes on when there is water in the tank and I dont get any more steam, but plate still heats up HELP

just put oust descaler in. one in the water tank and one in the base, my son in the kitchen having a sauna with the amount of steam in there now, worked a treat
