Sewing machine won't stop running?

Hi, I have an older Janome sewing machine that I purchased from a thrift store. It won't stop running when it is plugged in. It has a knee control only. Help please!

There should be power running to your machine, from your power outlet, into 2 different areas of the machine: one to the light source, which will be on constantly while the machine is plugged in or turned on, and the other to the pedal. The pedal powers on only when you press the pedal. The machine may be wired incorrectly, or backwards. If youre good with wiring mechanisms then that may be your answer and maybe you can rewire it yourself, otherwise Id take it in to have it serviced. Or by chance, if the cords to the machine are attached to a 2-outlet device, like the pedal would be attached with one plug and the motor to the other plug (its a common way machines used to be hooked up), then switch the plugs around because its just in the opposite way. Hopefully that makes sense and helps. One outlet should be for the motor and one outlet is for the machine light.
