Why does the fan heater in my Mondeo only work on settting 4 (fastest)?
The fan heater on my P Reg Ford Mondeo has only been working on setting no. 4 (fastest speed) for several months. Whilst there is heat the fan blower itself only works when turned to the fastest setting. Why is this and how do I fix/repair the fault?
my 2002 mondeo mk3 did the same,i went on the site recommended by steve m,got new resistor from ford spares department it cost £16 including vat, swapped it over and was all done in 30 minutes, thanks steve m.

It is a very common problem you can by the resistor and the first section of the look as the connection burn out due to poor contact ,an easy job for anyone really.

Thanks for your responses, it gave me the inspiration to have a go. I pulled shrply on the glove box to remove it (no screws or fixings to remove) and out it popped, then unclipped the carpet to reveal the resistor pack screwed to the bulkhead. A quick wiggle of the wires to the resistor did the trick, it must have been a poor connection as the fan is now working again. I found an enthsiasts site which has great photos and instructions on how to replace the resistor pack and connectors. Should others be suffering the same problem I would recommend checking out his site...www.mirez.co.uk
and navigate to "Replaceng the heater resistor pack".
Thanks again for your help

Mine had the same problem. Was told common problem with all fords ! Resistor needs replacing, cost me £35. Went to Ford dealers, they wanted £85+VAT. Local auto-electrical firm came and done it at my place of work.
