Feb. 16, 2009...I had the same problem with model SAV2655AWW. I pulled the transmission, which was a huge job, and took it apart. I found the wore out gear (input pinion). I do understand the use of plastic gears, but, if this is gonna happen after 3 1/2 years, then I'll take the noise and weight of metel gears! Now, if I would have called Maytag first, they offer a long warranty on the transmission, but you need a service pro to do both the diagnosis of the transmission problem and the replacement of the transmission ($300).
