The problem will probably be caused by moisture in the tailgate release button - the electrics within the switch will need to be dried out or failing that a new switch will be needed. Remove the trim on the tailgate to access the wiring and switch, if possible remove switch and open it up to see if water has got inside, if it has, try drying it out and cleaning the contacts.
