How do I fix my Kenwood Chef (A901)?

The motor is running erratically, which seems to be due to the governor cutting in and out. The motor brushes seem to have a good length (about 20mm each) and the motor bearings seem to be in good condition.

Hi George,

My mums a901 runs but as if it has a cough and is jittering - this makes a very loud noise and unusable for long periods.

Is this the same symptom as yours? I have checked the brushes and they are ok.

my email is markiex 'at' hotmail 'd o t' com if you could let me know I would really appreciate it.

Mark.

Further to my previous question, I have determined that the problem is due to the motor armature moving back and forth a little in its bearings, causing it to actuate the speed control governer suddenly as the armature moves. I also noticed that the hex-screw that retaines the fan/governor assembly to the armature shaft was a little loose.

Could the governor slipping a little up the shaft be causing the problem? And if so, if I alter the position of the fan/governor to remove the free-play, would that (as seems logical) alleviate the problem?
