How do I fix my recliner?

The foot rest on my recliner won't stay down. I found a small piece of wire that had snapped off from somewhere underneath. I can't find where it came from but the recliner is fairly new. It has a d-pull cable set up.

Thank you for your input. The chair is made by American Furniture in Mississippi. I find no model or make. It has a cable release for the foot rest. I was given the chair.
